It was six p.m. and I was beat. I felt like I could have slept for a million years and I was thanking God that Grace was here. And not just because I loved her company or that Andrew was deliriously happy to have her here either. It wasn’t even the fact that I found her so inexplicably attractive that I wanted to kiss her face off every time I was in her presence. No, for the first time in a long time, I just wanted to go to bed.

It had been a week since Grace had come to stay with us. It was working out great. She spent her days plotting her debut novel and meeting up with her friend Clive in the park a couple of times a week for lunch. I mean, seriously. How fucking cute was that? I knew absolutely zero women who took the time out of their day to do something like that. Except Grace. She was always full of surprises.

Like her way with Andrew. She never told him no. Just redirected him. And she was sneaky about it, somehow convincing him that it was all his idea. The woman was a modern day Mary Poppins and said she had hardly any experience with kids. She was just a natural and truly a Godsend. I hadn’t realized how overwhelmed I was until this week with her here helping me. It felt like a weight had been lifted, and just in time, since I was the busiest I’d ever been at work with the opening of five new stores overseas.

I was wiped and I was so damn thankful for what smelled like a delicious dinner in the crockpot and a quiet house at the moment. The food. God, the food. The woman was an amazing cook and if I didn’t start working out in the evenings, too, I was going to be as big as a house.

I left my downstairs office and walked around looking for Grace and Andrew, only to come up strangely empty-handed. Usually they were in the living room watching movies or building Legos, or sometimes playing Clue, which neither one of them really knew how to play so it was mostly just them winging it and accusing each other of being the murderer.

They were adorably insane and I loved it.

I’d known that Andrew would like Grace. Though, I hadn’t been prepared for how much.

I thought maybe I heard a noise from upstairs, so I trudged up the stairs dead on my feet and peeked into Grace’s room since it was the first I passed by.

The door was cracked and I could hear giggling. I didn’t want to disturb them so I pressed my eye to the crack in the door and listened.

They were sitting on Grace’s big bed across from each other, Grace sitting with her legs crisscrossed and Andrew on his stomach.

Each were holding Uno cards and Grace looked like she had half the deck in her hand.

“If I win, you have to eat one of your boogers,” Andrew said with a sly smile.
